A SIMPLE RITUAL FOR EVERYDAY WELLBEING

Before your first coffee or tea, start the day with a full glass of water.

After a night’s sleep, your body naturally needs fluids. Having water first thing in the morning is a simple daily habit that helps rehydrate the body, supports digestion and can help you feel more alert as you ease into the day.

Hydration is especially important for seniors, as the body’s sense of thirst can reduce with age. This means you may not always feel thirsty, even when your body needs fluids. Staying well hydrated supports energy levels, concentration, digestion, temperature regulation and overall wellbeing.

Common signs of dehydration can include a dry mouth, headache, tiredness, dizziness, dark-coloured urine, constipation, confusion or feeling less alert than usual. In older adults, dehydration can sometimes be harder to notice, so building small hydration habits into the day can make a real difference.

Try keeping a glass or bottle of water beside your bed, next to your kettle or near your favourite chair as a gentle reminder. Small daily rituals like this can support your energy, wellbeing and overall routine.

Start with water, then enjoy your morning coffee.
